Outdoor Classroom Day
Leaning Support Mentor, Ms Arnold challenged each faculty to take at least one of their lessons outside on Outdoor Classroom Day 2018.
Outdoor Classroom Day is a global campaign to celebrate and inspire outdoor learning and play. On the day, thousands of schools around the world take lessons outdoors, which can help improve children’s health, engages them with learning and leads to a greater connection with nature.
Ms Arnold said “It has been a total success today, staff have been really supportive and from my observations, both staff and students enjoyed this experience. The weather ensured it was a perfect day to do this and a great starting point for staff to embrace an opportunity to take learning outdoors”
Outdoor classroom day was so beneficial to both students and teachers, particularly during the busy exam period.
“I took my Year 11 drama class outside and it was so good for their wellbeing and peace of mind during the busy exam season – they were revising and testing each other purposefully, and a lot of their stress was relieved by being able to take a break from the pressures of the classroom” Ms Smith.
All teachers who were brave enough to take their lessons outside, some of which for the first time, were awarded with a certificate to mark their participation.
We are looking forward to participating in the next Outdoor Classroom Day on 1st November 2018.
