Our approach to learning

The Oldham Academy North believe that in order to allow our students to be successful in the challenging and competitive world around us, they must achieve the best academic results possible.

But learning is more than that.  Our curriculum is designed around our core principles to ensure that our students can successfully experience a wide range of subjects throughout KS3 before making informed choices about their GCSE studies.

At Key Stage 3, our curriculum is rigorous, challenging and engaging with regular opportunities to demonstrate their understanding and their mastery.  We use a range of strategies to assess students’ understanding as we only assess with purpose.  We believe that the learning and the progression through our curriculum is the most important part of a students’ journey.

At The Oldham Academy North we ensure that our students value the importance of reading as it enhances understanding but also the importance of reading for pleasure.  Students have a dedicated reading session in day in which they engage with a range of “class readers” and their own independent books.  Reading for meaning is a key principle in how students access the curriculum in all subjects.
