Pupil premium arrangements

The pupil premium gives academies extra funding to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils from Year 7 to Year 11.

The students eligible for pupil premium funding include:

  • Every child currently registered as eligible for free school meals
  • All children eligible for free school meals at any point in the past 6 years
  • Children who have been looked after for six months or longer

Academies receive:

  • £935 per student in years 7-11
  • £1,900 for any student who has been in local authority care for one day or more; leaves local authority care if adopted; leaves local authority care under a special guardianship order or a residence order; recorded as both eligible for free school meals in the last six years and as being looked after (or as having left local-authority care)

Academy accountability for the pupil premium

The pupil premium is paid to schools as they are best placed to assess what additional provision their pupils need.

At the Academy we understand that some students may face hardships at home which may prevent them for achieving their full potential. As a result, the Academy ensures that the additional funding received through Pupil Premium is used to support these students through their education, ensure they are not dis-advantaged compared to their peers and provide life opportunities that they might otherwise have missed out on.

Below is a list of strategies the Academy has put in place to ensure these students achieve in line with their peers:

  • Teaching & Support staff employed to keep class sizes down to ensure students can receive as much targeted support as possible
  • The Futures Programme is a fully-funded and unique curriculum which provides equal opportunities for all students, regardless of their financial situation, to take part in life experiences alongside their normal timetable. Over the course of the five years, the academy will provide students with opportunities to visit galleries, museums, outdoor learning centres and theatres, alongside University visits and on-site soft skill development, which students may not be able to experience at home. This ensures that when our students graduate from the academy in Year 11, they are well-rounded individuals with a plethora of experiences and life skills, allowing them to be competitive in the job market against students who come from more advantaged backgrounds.
  • Online revision services which the students can avail of in their own time and on their own devices or within school.
  • Providing breakfast to students who arrive to school early to ensure they are ready to face the day once school begins.

Our next Pupil Premium strategy review is in August 2023. This allows the Academy to reflect on how well pupil premium students have achieved after performance tables have been ratified and will allow us to ensure that the support we provide and expenditure of the Pupil Premium budget is value for money and leads to great outcomes for our students.

Whether your child is about to start school for the first time, or you want to check you’re not missing out on anything you might be entitled to, here’s what you need to know:

Free school meals

Most people have heard of free school meals, but do you know how to apply for them for your child?

Should you need support in your application please feel free to contact the school and we will try our best to help with your application.

Additional Funding

Remember, claiming free school meals doesn’t just mean a hot dinner for your child, they also mean vital cash, called pupil premium, which goes direct to your child’s school and can help fund their education – so even if you wanted to send your child with a packed lunch, it’s a good idea to register if you are eligible.

Entitlement

You’re entitled if you claim:

  • Universal Credit (If you are working, there is an earning threshold of £7,400 per year. If your earnings fluctuate, you can apply and you may be entitled during a period when your earnings are lower)
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guarantee element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

To make sure both yourself and your child are receiving everything you are entitled to, please don’t delay filling out the form below if you think you are entitled. Should you wish to speak to someone at the academy if you have any questions, please contact Ms Bowdell.
